Master's thesis
Gamification of Construction Process of Functions of Two Real Variables
Abstract
Abstract
This thesis describes the design, development, and user testing of the didactic game A(x,y)s which gamifies the process of constructing two-variable functions. The game is designed to be used in math lessons in high schools as a support tool. Its primary focus is on building up students' intuition regarding the two-variable functions, their graphs, and their properties. The game allows for importing custom levels which further increases its didactic potential.
Thesis description
Design and implement a learning game that will gamify the construction of functions of two variables. Choose an appropriate in-game representation of the function, game mechanics, and goals such that the player can create and interact with the function in a fun way. The implementation will allow the following:
- Construction of functions of two variables using a suitable user interface.
- Visual feedback to the player on whether the function is designed correctly.
- Recording the history of individual user solutions.
- Support for adding custom levels.
