This diploma thesis deals with a comparison of Czech and Swedish approaches to the development of key competencies in practical activities at the primary school level. The theoretical part defines the educational area “Man and the World of Work” and the Swedish concept of slöjd in the context of the curricular documents of both countries. The empirical part presents the results of qualitative research focusing on the conception of teaching, didactics, assessment, material conditions, and obstacles in practice. The thesis compares the teaching approaches in both countries and analyses the differences in pedagogical practice. Based on the findings, the discussion provides suggestions that can inspire Czech pedagogical practice.
