The bachelor thesis deals with the identification and analysis
of negative childhood events in the paediatric records of the
ELSPAC study participants. The objectives of the thesis include
studying the issue of negative events in childhood, identifying
neg-ative or traumatic events in the paediatric records of the
ELSPAC study, categorizing them according to ACE definitions,
and creating descriptive statistics. Finally, to as-sociate the
obtained ACEs with substance use in adolescence and to compare
with the available literature.
In this study, a lower prevalence of ACEs was found compared to
other stud-ies. When examining the effect of ACEs on substance
use, no association was con-firmed between ACEs and lifetime
substance use or between ACEs and past month illicit substance
use. The effect of ACE on early onset of cigarettes or alcohol
use was statistically significant. This result was consistent
with previous studies.
