The BA thesis ‘The Term Music in the Works of Arthur Schopenhauer’ answers the questions about the meaning and function of art, music in particular, in the works of Arthur Schopenhauer. The first chapter briefly describes basic principles of his philosophy and also includes his greatest inspirations, namely Plato and Immanuel Kant. The second chapter introduces and explains terms Will, genius and art, which are necessary for understanding Schopenhauer’s theory of art. The last chapter deals with music itself, with its relationship towards nature and soul and with its function in the mediation of pure ideas.
