The topic of my bachelor thesis are the Czechoslovak presidential elections of December 1935. They followed the decision of the first Czechoslovak president T. G. Masaryk to abdicate because of medical reasons. Masaryk suggested E. Beneš to be his successor; some of the political parties supported Bohumil Něměc, another presidential candidate. The aim of my thesis is to describe and analyze the media image of both the candidates and the elections themselves, as they were created by the newspapers of the main political parties: Republican Party (Venkov), People's Party (Lidové listy), Social Democratic Party (Právo lidu and Večerník Práva lidu), National Socialist Party (České slovo and Večerní České slovo), opposing Communist Party (Rudé právo) and National Union (Národní listy, Večerník národních listů and Národ). Independent newspapers are represented by Lidové noviny and Národní osvobození. I studied the selected periodicals which were issued between the 14th and 25th December 1935 and I compared them using the comparative analysis. The clarification of the political system in Czechoslovakia at the end of the year 1935 and the overview of the independent press and public relations of selected political parties and is included.
