This diploma thesis is devoted to the selection and work of
professional drivers. The thesis is divided into two parts,
theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part deals with
traffic psychology, psychological types of drivers,
psychological aspects of the slection of drivers and traffic
accident rates in the Czech Republic. The thesis tries to
analyze and describe all what can affect a driver during all
day concentration, highlight the complexity of the profession
and the severity and the need of selection of drivers. The
empirical part of the thesis focuses on the number of
successful applicants for a licence in cathegories “C1“, “C“
and “D“ during the last 11 years. The structured interviews
with the owners and HR managers of surveyed companies were used
to find out what are the current requirements in the selection
of professional drivers, and whether, according to their views,
are there enough new and quality drivers on the labor market.
