The aim of this thesis is to analyse the formation of identities in late capitalism from the postmodernist perspective. The theoretical part includes current research on identities and their formation, which proposes that there are overarching narratives that impede individual identification. Therefore, this thesis examines the representation of these concepts in popular media, specifically in the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. The analytical part then connects how media reflects contemporary cultures, but also its anxieties of the capitalist ideology. It focuses on the depictions of social identities and their respective categories of class, gender, and ethnicity.
