Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to produce a compartive analysis of English adjectives distant, far and remote. It concentrates on semantic differences between them and their collocational possibilities. It offers statistical data relating to their usage and defines their specific semantic features. In this way the thesis tries to show in what aspects these synonyms differ and demonstrates how conceptual synonymy can be treated in general terms. This thesis is based on the British National Corpus.
