Overview and Comparison of Web Services API

Anotace

Tato práce komplexně porovnává tři populární rozhraní API webových služeb (REST, SOAP a RPC) stanovením srovnávacích kritérií a analýzou jejich architektonických stylů, formátů komunikačních zpráv, stavovosti, transportních protokolů a bezpečnostních aspektů. Práce obsahuje teoretické srovnání a praktickou demonstrační aplikaci, která ukazuje rozdíly mezi rozhraními API v kódu a designu.

Abstract

This thesis comprehensively compares three popular web services APIs (REST, SOAP, and RPC) by establishing comparison criteria and analysing their architectural styles, communication message formats, statefulness, transport protocols, and security aspects. The thesis includes a theoretical comparison and a practical demonstration application to showcase the differences between the APIs in code and design.

Zadání práce

Student will compare web services APIs, exactly the REST, SOAP and RPC. Student will propose evaluation criteria that can be used to compare the previously mentioned APIs. He will create a demonstration application to practically prove the proposed criteria.

The thesis will therefore contain:

  • the propose of comparison criteria,
  • comparison of the APIs using the criteria, to demonstrate theirs usability,
  • analysis and development description of the testing application using the standard software engineering methods,
  • short description of deployment of the application using the Docker/Podman platform.

The thesis will contain all the source codes needed to deploy the application as a thesis's electronic attachment.
