In this thesis we study the automatization of dental microwear identification. We will apply it on photographs of teeth with the purpose of detecting the types of past populations’ dietary habits. In the programme R we create an algorithm that will automatically identify dental microwear and determine its important characteristics such as inclination and length. In the first chapter we study the Image Analysis in general, we describe digital image and operations that can be used. In the second and third chapter we pay attention to the image‘s improvement and its preparation for the next step. In the fourth chapter we describe the algorithm of Hough transform, thanks to which we will be able to identify the dental microwear in the image and determine its inclination and length. Finally, in the fifth chapter we apply all the described procedures on a photography of teeth that comes from an electronic microscope.
