The thesis focuses on socio-phonetic perceptions of Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová's speech by native and non-native speakers of English. One of the roles of the President is to represent the republic outwardly. Therefore, it is expected that every head of State, including the Slovak president, does not make mistakes when choosing to speak a foreign language and has representative communication skills. The thesis consists of two parts. First, the theoretical section provides a brief overview of the English phonetic system. The primary sources for this chapter are Practical Phonetics and Phonology: A Resource Book for Students by Collins & Mees and Peter Roach's English Phonetics and Phonology. They provide a detailed characterization of the system, including its sounds and suprasegmental features. These books serve as a template for comparison and identification of any errors. The theoretical part also focuses on the Slovak sound system to better understand the differences between Slovak and English languages. Furthermore, it details education and speaking skills in English and Slovak language of Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová. The second part presents the case study results, whose principle goal is to analyze Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová's speech in the English language and the perception elicited from a group of respondents.
