The study of international relations provides valuable insights into the realms of politics, diplomacy, and international cooperation. Over time, numerous theories and concepts have been developed to enhance our understanding of the complex mechanisms at play in international relations. While most theories seek to generalize phenomena to identify patterns, the concept of strategic culture takes a different approach. It focuses on analyzing the specific patterns of behavior exhibited by individual states. This thesis aims to examine and evaluate the concept of strategic culture as it applies to the Russian Federation through an interpretive case study. The primary objective is to identify the key characteristics of Russian strategic culture and subsequently apply them to selected conflicts in which Russia has been involved since 1991, with outcomes that are already known. By comparing the expected results based on the functionality of the strategic culture concept with the actual outcomes of these conflicts, the study will assess the validity and effectiveness of the concept.
