The diploma project deals with a group integration of children
with mental handicap at a primary school designated for
children with special needs.
The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter
focuses on the theoretical part of the thesis. It explains key
concepts such as mental disability, integration and inclusion,
school and class climate, legislation.
The second chapter deals with the personality of a child with
mental handicap. It describes intellectual cognitive
functioning, emotions and volitional characteristics,
adaptability and sociability and also education and development
of child’s personality.
Education of children with mental handicap is described in the
third chapter. This chapter presents ways of educating the
children and its principles. It also focuses on their leisure
time and school integration more in-depth.
The fourth chapter is the practical part of the thesis. It
contains case histories of students, deals with the development
and conditions of group integration of children with mental
handicap. Interviews with teachers are also included.
