Abstract

The course consists of two closely interrelated components:


1. Lectures by guest speakers: Leading experts from domestic and international academic and research institutions will present the latest trends, methodological approaches, and discoveries in plant biology.


2. Student presentations: Students will present the progress they have made on their bachelor’s or master’s theses. The goal is to provide them with a safe yet stimulating environment in which to practice presenting their results, structuring a scholarly presentation, and engaging in scientific discussion.


The course places a strong emphasis on interactivity, peer review (mutual feedback), and the ability to formulate constructive questions.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:


•    Present their own scientific findings and methodological approach to an audience within a limited time frame.


•    Critically evaluate and discuss the scientific data of their colleagues as well as the research presented by invited experts.


•    Formulate scientific hypotheses, identify methodological obstacles in their research, and seek solutions to them through discussion.


•    Apply the principles of effective scientific communication (presentation structure, data visualization, and soft skills in public speaking).

Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements

Credit requirements:


 1. Attendance Requirements: A minimum of 80% active participation in seminars throughout the semester is required.


Excuses: If a student is unable to attend a seminar in which they are scheduled to give a presentation, they are required to provide an excuse in advance and arrange an alternative date for the presentation. In the case of routine absences, it is not necessary to submit an excuse (absences are covered by the permitted 20% tolerance).


2. Student Presentations – a presentation on a topic related to the student’s bachelor’s or master’s thesis, or another topic assigned by the seminar instructor at least 14 days prior to the presentation. The scope and frequency of individual students’ presentations will be determined during the first week of classes.


3. Active Participation and Constructive Feedback – Students will actively participate in discussions following the presentations. They will provide feedback on their classmates’ presentations.
