Abstract
The aim of the course is to educate students in the field of sports planning and periodization. Another aim is to acquire the necessary knowledge for effective monitoring and analysis of training load.
Learning outcomes

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- interpret the principles of planning, periodization, and coaching management;

- analyze the needs of the sports field in order to set the principles of physical training in various Olympic sports;

- monitor, record, and analyze training loads;

- implement physical training plans within training units;

- implement microcycle sports training plans;

- implement mesocycle sports training plans;

- implement macrocycle sports training plans;

- implement annual training cycle sports training plans;

- implement multi-year cycle sports training plans.

Key topics

1. Principles of adaptation and the load-recovery relationship

2. Types of periodization: according to the relationship between volume and intensity: linear, nonlinear; according to content: concurrent, sequential (including block), conjugate; Agile periodization (M. Jovanovic); Triphasic Training (C. Dietz) and other systems;

3. Training variebles: Intensity, Volume, Frequency, Density, Total training load, General and specific training indicators;

4. Analysis of the needs of a specific sport and athlete/team: Biomechanical, physiological, fitness, and technical demands of the sport on athletic performance, Analysis of athlete needs (Interview and basic information, Testing of motor skills, Setting goals in specific areas);

5. Monitoring, recording, and analysis of training load: Monitoring of training load and the body's response to load; Analysis and evaluation (e.g., ACWR ratio, etc.); Software for writing training plans and their evaluation (XPS, Trainheroic, etc.);

6. Annual training plan: Specifics of individual sports; Specifics of team sports;

7-10. Creation of training plans: Principles of creating training units; Training unit – strength, speed, endurance, etc.; Microcycle; Mesocycle; Macrocycle and RTC; Multi-year sports training planning;

11-12. Tapering and peaking for sports: Competition microcycle, tapering and peaking strategies for individual and team sports.

Approaches, practices, and methods used in teaching
Theoretical-practical seminars.
Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements
The oral exam involves a group defense of a portfolio containing a training cycle developed according to the interactive syllabus for a specific Olympic sport. The portfolio contains comprehensive and detailed mesocycles with complete microcycles and training units and is submitted before the oral exam. Students work on their portfolios continuously throughout the semester. The submission of ongoing assignments is a prerequisite for admission to the exam.
