Anotace

The aim of the course is to provide students with understanding of the physiology of exercise and sport. The course is offered for the students of physical education, athletic training, sports management, etc. The course provides theoretical background and practical application of the elementary themes of human physiology in relation to exercise and sport.

Since the course is predominantly offered to exchange students, the level of expertise, acquired knowledge, and themes covered during the course may slightly alter depending on the attending students. Therefore, the course is segmented by themes instead of weeks.

Výstupy z učení
After passing the course the students will understand core principles of human physiology and basic methods of physiology and sports data acquisition.
Klíčová témata
  • Introduction (hello, course layout and accomplishment requirements). Cell. Homeostasis.
  • Antropometry (body size, composition, build). BMI and somatotypes.
  • Skeletal muscle (structure, function, reactions, adaptations). Dynamometry.
  • Nervous system (neuron, action potential, CNS, PNS, condution of action potential). Reflexes.
  • Metabolism (energy, and basic energy systems). Metabolic adaptation to training. Energetic expenditure, basal metabolism.
  • Cardiovascular system (structure and function, cardiovascular response and adaptation to exercise). Heart rate. Blood pressure. Cardiac output.
  • Respiratory system (structure and function, respiratory response and adaptation to excercise). Spirometry.
  • Laboratory visit. Spiroergometry (assessment of aerobic capacity, maximum oxygen uptake). DEXA. InBody. Indirect calorimetry.

Extra themes (optional, depend on ad hoc progression throughout the course):

  • Thermoregulation, responses and acclimatization to exercise in hot and cold environment.
  • Endocrine glands and their hormones. Hormonal response and adaptation to exercise.

Přístupy, postupy a metody používané ve výuce

2-hours seminars (based on personal attendace), consist of theoretical and practical part.

In the theoretical part, we introduce the theme partly by frontal presentation, partly by common discussion. In the practital part, the students will learn how to use and apply various gauges, calipers, meters or software and will assess the discussed parameters themselves. Past the assessment, we will discuss the results together.

Způsob ověření výstupů z učení a požadavky na ukončení

The course accomplishment is based on a mandatory course attendance, activities during the lecture, and successfully passed final test (or oral exam).

In the middle of the course, the students may write voluntary mid-term test (12 questions, in total 18 points) which, if written successfully, may earn the students extra points for the final test, as follows:

  • 50% + 1 point
  • 75% + 2 points
  • 100% + 3  points

The final test (24 questions, in total 36 points) will be written during the last lecutre of the semester. Depending on the final test's score (after adding the extra points from the mid-term test), a grade will be given to the students as follows:

  • 90% = A
  • 80% = B
  • 70% = C
  • 60% = D
  • 50% = E
  • <50% = F

In the unsuccessfull case, the final test may be resit twice. For a meaningful reason, the final exam may be taken orally.
