Předpoklady
B1-level knowledge of English is required at the start of the course. The B1 student understands the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters, can enter unprepared into a conversation about familiar topics and connect ideas in a simple way, can provide information, take messages, give simple instructions, and deal with less routine problems, e.g., complaints. He or she can also describe events, experiences, hopes, and ambitions and give reasons, explanations of plans, and opinions.

Anotace

This Master’s study program course targets several different areas.

  • It fosters learner autonomy through self-assessment, goal-setting, and reflection.
  • Through class activities and individual tasks, the course seeks to develop language in receptive (listening, reading), productive (speaking, writing), and interactive (discussion) communication models. 
  • It provides materials and resources to strengthen and practice using B2-level grammar structures. 
  • The course also uses a variety of materials exclusively from the area of Special Needs Education and thus develops and expands students’ professional vocabulary.
  • Last but not least, it provides opportunities to build and develop academic skills (analyzing and synthesizing information, presenting, and discussing).
Výstupy z učení
By the end of this course, students will be able to understand spoken and written texts on SNE topics at the B2 level according to the CEFR. Furthermore, they will have researched an SNE topic related to their own experiences and shared it with their classmates. In addition, students will have demonstrated a technique used in SNE, given feedback on their peers' performances, and created a personal list of academic and/or specialist vocabulary. They will also have practiced selected B2 grammar structures and reflected on their progress and the work they have accomplished throughout the semester.

Weekly 100-minute seminars designed to develop and practise both language competencies (productive, receptive & interactive) and soft skills (researching, synthesising, mediating, presenting, collaborating and reflecting).


Main methods of teaching:

  • socratic method;
  • teacher instruction;
  • peer and group discussions;
  • group project;
  • listening, reading, writing;
  • short oral presentations;
  • learning centers;
  • grammar and vocabulary practice activities;
  • self-reflection & reflection on learning activities.


Způsob ověření výstupů z učení a požadavky na ukončení

To pass the course, the student must meet all the credit requirements below.


Credit requirements: 1) Attendance (only two unexcused absences are allowed; maximum 1 unexcused and one excused absence for combined students); 2) completing & submitting ALL in-term portfolio tasks (see below); 3) reaching  a total of 65 % (45 points) and over in the continuous assessment (by the end of the teaching period).

Náhradní absolvování
In the case of an Erasmus or another study stay abroad, students may complete the course online. Students must contact their instructor, who will draw up an individual plan for them, specifying which tasks must be completed during the semester and in what way they will have to be modified. Further, the plan will specify the tasks that may be done after returning from the study stay.
