- Abstract
This course is designed as a seminar to accompany the lecture course Animal Physiology (Bi 3030) for biology students specializing in education. It cannot be combined with the course Animal Physiology – Laboratory. The course objectives are: to learn how to use AI tools when preparing lessons; to learn how to critically evaluate the scientific rigor of information and the quality of sources in the field of physiology; to learn how to design a comprehensive lesson incorporating a lecture, a hands-on experiment, and student feedback; and to acquire knowledge and practical skills in selected physiological processes. The course also aims to teach basic skills for working in a physiology laboratory. Students will learn to operate virtual laboratory equipment, collect and evaluate data, and draw conclusions.- Learning outcomes
- use artificial intelligence tools in preparing and planning physiology teaching and critically evaluate their outputs;
- critically evaluate the scientific quality of information and the quality of information sources in the field of animal physiology;
- design and prepare a comprehensive physiology lesson integrating theoretical instruction, a practical experiment, and appropriate forms of student feedback;
- practically demonstrate selected physiological processes and explain them clearly at a level appropriate for secondary school biology teaching.
- Key topics
The Use of AI in High School Instruction: A Simulated Biology Lesson at a High School. Specialized Topics: Physiology of frog muscle contraction, Physiology of excitable membranes, Cardiovascular system, Blood glucose and its regulation, Metabolism and calorimetry, Ventilation and lung volumes, Senses, Digestion, Blood groups, Electrocardiography, Motor and autonomic reflexes, reaction time- Study resources and literature

- Approaches, practices, and methods used in teaching
The course combines lectures by the instructor, group work in the form of seminars, simulated high school biology classes, and practical exercises in animal physiology. AI tools are used both in class and for homework.- Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements
To complete the course, students must actively participate in seminars, prepare and present a selected topic in the form of a simulated lesson, and complete the worksheets from the practical exercises.
