Abstract

The thesis explores the interplay of the paradigms of complexity science and sociology. It is postulated that sociology is entering a new crisis due to its inability to reflect on the changing nature of scientific data and the new possibilities of doing scientific research in the information age. Thesis description
The thesis introduces and describes a powerful set of tools and methods called Complex Network Analysis along with an explanation and description of Complexity Science as the theoretical framework in which the methods are grounded. General claims are illustrated with a pilot study performing complex social network analysis of a concrete data sample from Facebook.
