The thesis focuses on three YA novel adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays – Dating Hamlet (2002) by Lisa Fiedler, The Turquoise Ring (2005) by Grace Tiffany and Lady Macbeth’s Daughter by Lisa Klein (2009). The theoretical part of the thesis introduces and explains important adaptation theories and gives a brief overview of the feminist movement and its influence on literature and literary criticism. Analytical part of the thesis is based on close reading of the three YA novels and application of the theories to the analysis of YA novels. Main aim of the thesis is to prove that the three YA adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays are intertwined with the theory of adaptation and the feminist theory and criticism, thus emphasising the influence of contemporary socio-political issues on the adaptations of Shakespeare for young female readership.
