The diploma thesis "Using Storytelling with Intensive Reading in Adult Classes" deals with the use of stories and intensive story reading in teaching foreign languages in adult classes. The goal of this diploma thesis is to advocate using stories for teaching foreign languages in adult classes. The first part of this thesis deals with general questions relating to the use of storytelling and intensive reading in English language teaching based on the theory of language acquisition and introduces the aspects of the use of storytelling in teaching adults. In the second part of the thesis Roald Dahl's story "The Landlady" is used for intensive reading in a storytelling project with adult students. The progress which the students have achieved from telling, reading and listening to stories is examined, the results of the research are presented, discussed and the whole story-based approach is evaluated. The aim od the project is to find out whether telling and reading storis can motivate students to read in English for pleasure. The thesis also can serve as an inspiration for other English teachers and students.
