This bachelor thesis focuses on analyzing some expressions which are typical for religious language. The stress will be put on distinguishing between those expressions which carry the same or similar meanings even if they appear out of religious context and those which appear in religious context and if found apart from religious context have either different meaning or are not used at all. Analyzes of the given words will be from the semantic and lexical view and by examining various contexts to prove the differences in the way these words are used. Another aim of the bachelor thesis is to make the public more familiar with the special terminology used in the Bible. It is generally presumed that a speaker who mastered his/her language should be able to understand any written document in this language. Some may object that specialists jargons create such a unique vocabulary that it is not possible to grasp without a special education (Čmejrková 1996, 184 and 186). On the contrary in the case of the Bible we can presume that its terminology will be understandable to lay people because it was originally created for masses and it has been used by them till today.To make the topic of this thesis narrow, only the New Testament will be used as the source of the research.
