Thesis description

The thesis aims to extend the current understanding of T-shaped competencies across different IT work roles by developing model T-shapes that represent the most common professional positions in the field. Building on previous case studies and surveys conducted within the Service Systems Laboratory, the research combines theoretical insights with new empirical data collected through a questionnaire designed to capture technical, interdisciplinary, and soft-skill dimensions. The survey will be distributed among IT professionals during a developer conference organized by Red Hat. 

Collected data will be analyzed and compared with existing studies to identify characteristic T-shaped profiles for selected roles such as programmer, database specialist, quality engineer, or UX designer. These typical models will then serve as benchmarks for participants who request personalized feedback, enabling the identification of individual competency gaps and tailored recommendations for professional growth. The results will not only offer a comparative overview of T-shaped competency structures in current IT practice but will also contribute input data for an AI-driven recommender system that will help students adapt their study paths toward targeted T-shaped profiles.
