This thesis focuses on the topic of translation of TED Talks from English to Czech, specifically in the context of subtitling, a type of audiovisual translation. This thesis focuses on the topic of translation of TED Talks, specifically in the context of subtitling, a type of audiovisual translation. The aim of this thesis is to identify and examine the translation issues and constraints that a translator of TED Talks may encounter, and the strategies utilized in subtitling to address these concerns. The theoretical part of the thesis will address translation theory and the linguistic characteristics of spoken language as well as present audiovisual translation as such and subtitling as a discipline. The practical part will provide the translation of the transcripts of four selected talks. The analytical part will cover the analysis of the TED Talks.
